I fell in love with Pittsburgh's online dating profile. I had been working at Duke University doing health economics research when I read a wikipedia article on a strange skyscraper called the Cathedral of Learning. I'm an amateur fan of architecture and urban planning, and this building just captured my imagination! I really don't think America has any skyscraper more interesting than the Cathedral.
After reading the wikipedia article, I google earth explored the city, and it was stunning! I thought to myself "Why did no one ever tell me Pittsburgh was so cool?" I became obsessed. I started reading the Post-Gazette local section every day during my lunch break. I would get extra excited on Wednesdays because popcitymedia.com would publish it's articles for the week. However the most important influence on my decision to move to Pittsburgh was a forum of dedicated and passionate lovers of Pittsburgh at skyscraperpage.com. The actual forum link is here.
After following Pittsburgh for over a year, and talking about it constantly to skeptical friends, I was challenged to go see it for myself. So I took myself (no one wanted to come with me) on a 5 day vacation to Pittsburgh. That was it. I knew. Pittsburgh was where I would build my life. I moved here September 23rd 2013.
